Beds for Kids, a local charity supported by The David Hoffman Group, hosted its first gala Monday night. And it was a huge success!
The DHG team was among the many donors who enjoyed the evening event at The Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge. The gala’s theme was “A Starry Night”, and featured a live and silent auction, cocktails, and dinner. Over $38,000 was donated during the dinner alone, and it was matched by a local donor.
Beds for Kids has delivered more than 3,500 beds to families in need since its inception in 2011. They serve local families who are transitioning out of homeless by providing them with new or gently used essential furniture.
The organization began with a small church group who discovered that families moving out of a shelter or other temporary housing often don’t have the means to furnish a home. They estimated that in 2010, 7,500 children in Charlotte slept without a bed or on the floor.
Broker/Realtor Cullen McNulty, a member of the DHG team, volunteers with Beds for Kids. He works in the warehouse and helps drop furniture off at homes.
“Delivering beds and other household furniture to those transitioning out of homelessness is an event that changes my perspective on life. I’m reminded weekly that I am very fortunate. But more importantly, I’m reminded that God wants me to continue to help as there is always someone who needs a hand up vs. a hand out.” says McNulty.
The David Hoffman Group is raising money for a different local charity each quarter this year. Our fundraising efforts began with Water Missions International, which is headquartered in Charleston, where DHG recently opened an expansion office. Our third and fourth quarter charities include Citizen Schools and Charlotte Family Housing.
Giving back is important to Owner/Broker David Hoffman. “I believe that we all have to give more than we can get. We have to give back to the communities that have blessed us with what we have. It’s a way to say thank you for their support.”
